Dear reader,
we created an app prototype which shall clean our planet from waste. In the beginning we started with some methods to organize ourselves.
1 Preparation for the project through input sessions on different methods
In the following we present the final results of the used methods
6-3-5 method
Problem 1 | Problem 2 | Problem 3 |
Wasteful mentality | Missing of privacy in smart homes | The storing and producing of paperwork in companies. |
Reasons why this is a problem | Reasons why this is a problem | Reasons why this is a problem |
Waste of ressources | Big companies can spy on your every move | Wasted resources used as paper weight |
Waisting your own mental health | You dont feel safe in your own home | Destruction of living space for animals (deforestation) |
because Advertisement want that we buy the newest things | big players sell your data to other (maybe) unserious companies | Our children will never see the world that green as we did |
Negative impact on the surrounding | People can break into your house with a usb stick | bad for nature |
It uses up space which would have been used otherwise |
Walt Disney Method
Dreamer | Realist | Questioner |
– cleaning Hamburg – Shifting the mentality of the population – Creating a better future – Cleaning up cities – hint of the day with sustainable living idea / advise – working together with other companies and app users receive discounts (e.g. pay less in a cinema based on your garbage collector ranking) | – App with possibility to reward the user for collecting garbage – costly – Homeless people could lose their income – It will help with the rat problem in many districts | – How is it possible to award just the ones who collected real garbage – How is it going to be funded? > some sort of advertisement? Like a banner on the bottom > donations > gov. supported |
2 Target group
In this chapter we talk about the different group of persons (called personas) who would use an app like ours.

3 Project Planning
In the next sub items we reflect our team building process
3.1 Team Building
The team was created by the teachers. After an extensive discussion, we created the following rules:
- Mathéo – Team lead
- Jonas Johannsen – Product Owner
- Steven – Technical Lead
- Nick – Scrum Master
Since we were a small team of three people and we wanted to have a flat hierarchy, we decided to make decisions according to the principle of simple majority. Due to this procedure, decisions were made fast and efficient and a decent workflow was provided. Of course, according to the roles everyone had to do his special part:
The Team leader represents the team in meetings and is the heart of the team.
The Product Owner was there to clearly identify and describe product backlog items in order to build a shared understanding of the problem and solution with the product development team, make decisions regarding the priority of product backlog items in order to deliver maximum outcome with minimum output, determine whether a product backlog item was satisfactorily delivered and ensure transparency into the upcoming work of the product development team.
The Tech Leader guides the technical decisions within a team using his leadership skills. His responsibility is to drive, lead and motivate the team and its members. If any technical difficulties occurred, one could always ask him due to his sound knowledge on the technical aspect.
And last but no least the Scrum Master was there to clear obstacles, establish an environment where the team can be effective, ensure that a good relationship between the team and product owner was given and to protect the team from outside interruptions and distractions.
3.2 Scrum Rules
To create the Scrum Rules, we had orientated to the standardized Scrum rule set. In Scrum it is a must have to take an estimation, a sprint, a daily and a retro. These topics are examined in the next sub-items. For estimation planning we used a kanban board on Cryptpad.fr (see next picture)
4 App planning
In this chapter we show how we proceeded to make the app a reality.
4.1 Thinking about the design
In the next photo series one can see our prototyping from the first draft to a digital one to a first prototyping app, created with android studio.

Thanks for reading and good wishes from Jonas, Mathéo, Steven and Nick.
