Introduction
In our recent project, we had the exciting opportunity to visit the harbour museum, a treasure trove of maritime history. Our goal was to create a digital overview of the museum’s various areas, allowing visitors to engage with the exhibits in a more interactive way. We developed a clickable webpage where each area is highlighted, and upon clicking, visitors can access a summary that provides insights into what they can expect to see. This initiative not only enhances the visitor experience but also makes the rich history of the Hafenmuseum more accessible to everyone. Join us as we explore the significance of our project and the fascinating stories behind each area of the museum.
Our team
Our project was brought to life by a dedicated team of six talented developers, consisting of three backend developers and three frontend developers. Each member played a crucial role in ensuring the success of our digital overview for the Hafenmuseum.
The backend developers focused on building a robust and efficient server-side infrastructure, ensuring that the data was seamlessly managed and retrieved. Their expertise allowed us to create a solid foundation for our project, enabling smooth interactions and quick loading times.
On the other hand, our frontend developers were responsible for crafting an engaging and user-friendly interface. They designed the clickable webpage, ensuring that each area of the museum was visually appealing and easy to navigate. Their creativity and attention to detail helped transform our ideas into a vibrant digital experience.
Together, our team combined technical skills and creativity to deliver a project that enhances the visitor experience at the harbour museum, showcasing the power of collaboration in the world of development.
Our approach
To successfully develop the digital overview for the harbour museum, we employed a structured and collaborative approach. Our process began with brainstorming sessions, where we generated ideas and discussed the best ways to present the museum’s areas.
Next, we created personas to better understand our target audience, allowing us to tailor our content and design to meet their needs. We also utilized an Empathy Map to gain deeper insights into the visitors’ experiences and emotions, ensuring that our project resonated with them.
To identify key challenges, we constructed a Problem Tree, which helped us visualize the issues we wanted to address. We also formulated W-questions (who, what, where, when, why) to clarify our objectives and guide our development process.
Throughout the project, we adopted Kanban and agile methodologies to enhance our workflow. This allowed us to manage tasks efficiently and adapt quickly to any changes. We held daily stand-up meetings to discuss progress and challenges, fostering open communication within the team. Additionally, we conducted a retrospective session to reflect on our work and identify areas for improvement.
This comprehensive approach not only streamlined our development process but also ensured that we created a valuable resource for the visitors of the harbour museum.
The prototype
The prototype of our project began with a printed overview that we received at the harbour museum. This initial resource served as our foundation, providing us with a clear layout of the museum’s various areas.
To kick off the digital transformation, we first took photographs of this printed overview, capturing all the essential details and structure. Next, we digitized the images, ensuring that we maintained the integrity of the original design while enhancing its accessibility.
Finally, we turned our digitized overview into an interactive, clickable format. Each area of the harbour museum is now highlighted, allowing users to click and access detailed summaries about what they can expect to see. This prototype not only showcases our technical skills but also emphasizes our commitment to improving the visitor experience at the harbour museum.
By transforming a static overview into an engaging digital tool, we aimed to make the museum’s rich history more accessible and enjoyable for all visitors.
