The Case:

Sanxia, a culturally rich district in New Taipei City, Taiwan, is known for its traditional architecture, vibrant local markets, and historic crafts like indigo dyeing. Despite its potential, Sanxia remains largely under the radar—especially for international tourists.

The Challenge:
Sanxia struggles with low tourist engagement and limited international visibility. Most locals speak little to no English, and there is a lack of digital or interactive tools to help visitors explore the area. As a result, Sanxia’s cultural and economic potential remains untapped.

Why It Matters:
Without new approaches, local businesses and cultural traditions risk fading away. Meanwhile, today’s travelers—especially young adventurers, families, and cultural enthusiasts—are seeking authentic, engaging, and accessible travel experiences. Sanxia has all the ingredients; it just needs the right way to showcase them.

 

 

 

Our Problem:

Sanxia faces a major barrier when it comes to attracting international tourists. Despite its cultural richness, the district struggles with:

  • Inaccessibility for non-locals: Tourists often find it hard to navigate Sanxia due to language barriers—many locals speak little or no English.

  • Lack of engaging tools: There are no interactive or modern ways to discover Sanxia’s attractions, making it less appealing to younger, travelers.

  • Low awareness: Many people—both local and international—don’t know what Sanxia has to offer, which limits visitor interest and economic potential.

This disconnect means that Sanxia’s cultural heritage, local businesses, and tourism opportunities are underutilized. Without action, this could lead to further decline in visitor numbers and local engagement.

 

 

Our Solution:

Explore Sanxia is an interactive digital platform designed to make the cultural treasures of Sanxia accessible, engaging, and fun for international visitors.

We combine storytelling, gamification, and user-generated content to create a unique tourism experience. Users can:

  • Join a Scavenger Hunt: Visitors choose a character and explore Sanxia through an interactive map. At each cultural station, they solve riddles, learn fun facts, and earn digital stamps.

  • Browse the Gallery: A collection of images submitted by travelers showcases Sanxia’s beauty and cultural spots from authentic perspectives.

  • Read & Share Blogs: Tourists and locals alike can post their experiences, creating a shared archive of stories and tips in multiple languages.

  • Use Multilingual Support: The platform is available in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, German, and Indonesian to break down language barriers and foster cultural connection.

Our solution turns Sanxia into a living, interactive destination where tourists can not only explore but also contribute—making them feel part of the community.
