Enabling digital democratic discourse | Team 9

Problem

The widespread dissemination of misinformation and reliance on biased sources have become major challenges in today’s digital era, as false narratives can spread rapidly and distort public perception. Such practices not only undermine trust in credible institutions but also contribute to polarization, making it harder for society to engage in constructive and informed dialogue, puting in danger the future of the democracy.

Target Group

The primary target audience consists of young individuals, who are often more vulnerable to the spread of misinformation circulating on social media platforms (Article, Video, etc.) and politically biased news outlets.

Mainly young people who often fall victim to misinformation on social media and politically leaning news outlets.

Solution

Our solution is a website that analyses articles and videos for miss information as well as the source for political biases.

The website does:

  • Highlight suspicious information for the user to fact check.
  • Show the user how far right or left leaning the article or the reporting source is.
  • Recommend articles about the same topic but from different sources with different political views to cover all view points.

Prototype

  • Landing Page: A simple and modern UI where users can paste a link and instantly proceed with the analysis.

  • Article analysis: Shows the text of the artycle with highlighted sentences that are suspicious of being missinformation, making it easier for the user to confirm the veracity of the information and also showing the political framing and other perspectives so the user can get the full view of the situation.
