The Problem
The Bürgerhaus Wilhelmsburg, a vital hub for our local community, is currently facing a significant challenge:
the inability to gather proper feedback. Despite its numerous programs, events, and services aimed at enhancing the well-being of the local community.
In this design thinking workshop, our challenge was to design a robust feedback system that not only collects data but also encourages community members to provide their input openly and regularly. The goal was to establish a continuous feedback loop that empowers the community center to make informed decisions, enhance its offerings, strengthen its community relationships, and ultimately thrive as a vital resource for our community. Through empathetic design and innovative solutions, we aim to address this problem and ensure the community center’s sustainability and effectiveness.
Our Solution
To address the challenge of obtaining valuable feedback for our community center, we have developed a cutting-edge web application tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community members. This innovative solution not only collects feedback efficiently but also ensures accessibility (a11y) and internationalization (i18n) for a seamless and inclusive user experience. You can find the web application here.
Key Features of our Web Application:
- User-Friendly Interface: Our web app boasts an intuitive and user-friendly interface designed to accommodate users of all ages and digital literacy levels. It’s simple to navigate and provides clear instructions for submitting feedback.
- Accessibility (a11y): We have prioritized accessibility in our design, making the web app usable for individuals with disabilities. Features such as screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, and high contrast options ensure that everyone can participate and provide feedback comfortably.
- Internationalization (i18n): Recognizing our diverse community, our web app offers multiple language options and cultural adaptability. Users can select their preferred language and feel at home when providing feedback, breaking language barriers.
- Secure Data Storage: Feedback is valuable, and we take data security seriously. Our web app ensures that all feedback submissions are securely stored, protecting the privacy and anonymity of our community members.
By implementing this web application, we aim to bridge the feedback gap, fostering a stronger connection between our community members and the community center. This solution ensures that everyone, regardless of their abilities or language preferences, has an equal opportunity to share their thoughts, making our community center a place that truly reflects the needs and desires of its diverse population.
Technology
For technology the Web Application uses Vue.js in the Frontend and Laravel (PHP) in the backend. The connected database is a MariaDB SQL database.
For Continuous Deployment a GitLab pipeline is used.
Proper containerization is achieved thanks to Docker and Docker Compose.
The whole project is getting deployed to a Ubuntu Linux Server.
